Fashion Design and Dressmaking Course

Who is this course for?
This course is open to anyone from total beginners to intermediate learners. Offered in a classroom setting with individual attention, you can progress at your own pace. This course is particularly beneficial for those studying or interested in pursuing a career in fashion design. Choose between our 6-week dressmaking or 6-week pattern drafting courses based on your needs and skills. You can purchase now and book a date later, with vouchers valid for up to 6 months.

What will I learn?
In the Dressmaking Class, you will:

• Select appropriate fabrics for your designs
• Measure and cut patterns accurately
• Layout fabric correctly and transfer markings
• Match notches and construct garments from scratch
• Insert facings and closures such as zips
• Alter garments to fit personal taste
• Achieve high-quality finishes, including closures and hems
• Complete at least one garment

In the Beginners Pattern Drafting Class, you will:

• Draft bodice, sleeve, and skirt blocks
• Learn various block adaptations
• Construct toiles
• Design and produce patterns for up to two garments
• Construct a toile of the garment, time permitting

What materials do I need? For Dressmaking:

• Pattern (appropriate to your skill level)
• Fabric (quantity determined by the pattern)
• Thread
• Interfacing (if needed)
• Invisible zip (if required)

For Pattern Drafting:

• 3 metres of calico
• Set square
• Pencil
• Eraser

How long is this class?
