Modern Corset
What you will learn:
This course introduces you to the processes and techniques for designing and making your own modern corset. Learn to construct a modern corset using specialised materials and components tailored to your measurements. You'll gain hands-on experience in creating channels for boning and sewing the corset from start to finish, including fitting and final adjustments.
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Understand how a corset shapes a silhouette
- Understand the design processes specific to corsetry
- Select and use appropriate materials for corsets, including fabrics, interlinings, grommets, eyelets, and boning types
- Apply construction techniques and professional finishing skills for corsetry

What you will need to bring along:
- Non-stretch fabric
- Calico
- Fabric and paper scissors
- Sharp trimming scissors
- Dressmaker’s pins
- Tape measure
- Tailors chalk
- Dressmaker’s tracing wheel
- Tracing paper
- A selection of hand sewing needles and threads
- Notepad and pens, pencils, sharpener and an eraser
- Boning
- Eyelets and Grommets
Time and Duration:
- Wednesday’s @ 10:30 - 14:00 (6 weeks - once a week)

Note:
- Excellent attendance and punctuality is required from all students
- Basic numeracy and english language speaking and listening and reading skills are essential.
- You are generally expected to spend some time outside of class for the completion of the activities, hence it is advisable to have a sewing machine at home

This is an Intermediate level course, suitable for people that have experience in using a sewing machine. It is not suitable for beginners.
Intermediates can: understand and check body measurements against patterns with ease; carry out basic pattern alterations such as lengthening/shortening, widening/narrowing; layout patterns, measure grainlines and cut out fabric following lay plans; understand pattern markings; use a sewing machine accurately and safely.
