Pattern and Dress Making: Intermediates
What you will learn:
This course is perfect for those returning to pattern cutting, offering a clear introduction to essential skills. You will learn to use basic blocks to create simple patterns, which is especially helpful if you study textiles and want to design garments for your own fabrics. You'll work with a standard size block to create varieties of skirts. Completing this course will deepen your knowledge and prepare you to move on to the advanced level, provided you've mastered basic blocks, simple style adjustments, and pattern drafting.
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Use a standard size pattern block to draft basic garment shapes
- Apply simple manipulation techniques to develop different styles
- Work with balance marks, grainlines, and other technical details
- Create and use toiles as part of the process for developing a final pattern
What you will need to bring along:
- Fabric and calico
- Fabric and paper scissors
- Sharp trimming scissors
- Dressmaker’s pins
- Tape measure
- Tailors chalk
- Dressmaker’s tracing wheel
- Tracing paper
- A selection of hand sewing needles and threads
- Notepad and pens, pencils, sharpener and an eraser
Time and Duration:
- Friday’s @ 15:00 - 18:30 (6 weeks - once a week)

Note:
- Excellent attendance and punctuality is required from all students
- You are generally expected to spend some time outside of class for the completion of the activities, hence it is advisable to have a sewing machine at home
