Pattern and Clothe Making: Advanced

What you will learn:

In this project, you'll refine your skills at an advanced level by working on various elements such as pockets, collars, cuffs, plackets, waistbands, facings, advanced fitting and garment adjustments. Students will start by creating any personal choice of project. You’ll learn fittings and adjusting patterns to your personal measurements, and then sewing any garment of choice using preferred fabric, incorporating many advanced techniques and finishing touches. Being able to draft your own patterns is essential for designing and making clothes that match your unique vision. This advanced course will help you expand your skills and deepen your understanding of pattern drafting through hands-on projects.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

• Turn information from sketches, photos, and other images into professional-quality pattern

• Analyse and interpret fashion drawings and clothing images

• Modify and adapt blocks to accurately bring designs to life
• Construct and fit toiles with a professional finish
• Adjust and refine complex and advanced patterns
• Choose the correct pattern block size based on body measurements
• Apply fitting techniques to customize a garment for your body shape
• Make and document pattern alterations suitable for your skill level
• Select fabrics that match both your skills and the garment style
• Complete garment construction and finishing techniques to an intermediate standard

What you will need to bring along:

• Fabric and calico
• Fabric and paper scissors
• Sharp trimming scissors
• Dressmaker’s pins
• Tape measure
• Tailors chalk
• Dressmaker’s tracing wheel
• Tracing paper
• A selection of hand sewing needles and threads
• Notepad and pens, pencils, sharpener and an eraser
  

Time and Duration:

• Friday’s @ 10:30 - 14:00 (6 weeks - once a week)
