Occasion and Bridal Garment
What you will learn:
On this wedding dress-making course, you'll explore the technical skills needed to create contemporary bridal wear. You will begin by discussing current trends and with the guidance of the tutor, create a bodice design of your choice. By working from a pattern block you will make a corset, complete a toile for a fitted bodice, refitting where necessary and then making it in your chosen fabric. You will then explore skirt patterns and wedding dress silhouettes such as fishtail or bias cuts before completing various toiles. During the course, you will investigate different types of surface decorations such as lace, piping and bias frills as well as discuss types of veils and petticoats.
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Identify and understand the terminology specific to Bridal Wear manufacturing
- Master the specialised cutting techniques essential for Bridal Wear
- Create patterns for a variety of skirt designs, including those with a train
- Acquire practical skills in the construction of a bridal bodice
What you will need to bring along:
- Fabric and calico
- Boning
- Eyelets and Grommets
- Fabric and paper scissors
- Sharp trimming scissors
- Dressmaker’s pins
- Tape measure
- Dressmaker’s tracing wheel
- Tracing paper
- A selection of hand sewing needles and threads
- Notepad and pens, pencils, sharpener and an eraser
Time and Duration:
- Monday’s @ 15:00 - 18:30 (8 weeks - once a week)

Note:
- Excellent attendance and punctuality is required from all students
- You are generally expected to spend some time outside of class for the completion of the activities, hence it is advisable to have a sewing machine at home
- This course is suited for intermediate - advanced learners
